Come and experience raku, an exciting fast firing process that produces crackling flashes of colors, metallic lusters or very earthy tones.  Raku originated in Japan in the 16th century and consists today in removing your pieces from the kiln while red-hot and placing them in containers with combustible material.  Fire and smoke react with glazes to produce unique and unpredictable results.  The class is open to both wheel-throwers and hand-builders with some clay experience.  We will explore the use of carving and texture.  Raku pieces are mainly decorative but can also be used for dry food, depending on the glazes.

25lbs of raku clay, glazes and firings are included.  The League provides the firing tongs, gloves and containers.  Instructions will be given on firing procedures.
