This class is for anyone interested in working on the wheel, from beginners to the experienced. An ideal class for the first timer who wishes to try his/her hand at pottery and for the more experienced who want to expand their skills. For beginners, Marah will demonstrate the basics of throwing on the wheel, such as centering the clay and throwing bowl and cylinder forms. AND, for those with more experience, Marah will demonstrate more advanced techniques to expand their skills. During the fourth week of class, all students will learn a variety of decorating techniques including sgraffito, slip trailing, and mishima (slip inlay).
This class uses a mid-range clay, which is fired to cone 6 oxidation. Mid-range clay allows for the use of underglazes, getting the vibrant colors achieved with low-fire clay while making the vessels strong enough to be dishwasher and microwave safe.
Marah is fluent in Spanish and English.
Included in the course fee are: 25lbs of clay, use of available glazes, and firings.
Pottery tools are required and a $14 starter tool kit is available for purchase (check or exact change only) on the first day of class or you may bring your own tools.
