Mid-range firing is an increasingly popular firing range in ceramics.  In this popular class you will be mixing, testing, and altering glazes to get great effects on different clay bodies without going to cone 10.  You will be trying a variety of made-from-scratch glazes which will be tested on a weekly basis.  If there is a recipe that you have seen and want to try, bring it to class.

We'll begin by making personalized test tiles of various clay bodies.  Then we'll move on to safety basics and glaze mixing procedures.  Each week, we'll mix variations on our base glazes to achieve different colors and effects.

This popular class is only offered once a year or so and class size is limited.

Note: Respirators will be required as of the second week of class. They are NOT provided by the Ceramic League.  Maite recommends you have your own properly-fitting, reusable half face respirator with replaceable P100 filters.  These respirators are available for purchase online or at local hardware stores for about $20-25.  It is also recommended (although not required) that you have your own gram scale for the class.  Maite will have a few new gram scales and 3M Model 6291 respirators in size medium available on the first class which you may purchase that day if you'd like.
